I need to synchronize time between clients in a real-time game. I've identified and implemented 2 different ways of doing this, but need help determining which is best for bandwidth:

To specifically address your character movement, if you're not running any sort of pathfinding (like A*) and its just normal updating of an avatar's position you should use some sort of predictive movement model.

Alright, after some thorough searching, BigFIsh says:

Changing Variable Ownership on Disconnect

Is there any way to catch a user disconnect and change ownership of their room variables? They're gone before I know the user is, and that's a problem. The persistence flag won't change this behavior.

Any ideas, anyone? I really need their data!

There's no documentation that I could find stating that User's are only able to have 5 variables. I also searched the forums the best that I could, so sorry if this has already been answered.

Aha, either through our Extension being fixed - or some other bug fixing, our guess was an exception was being thrown during the middle of all the logic that is ran when a user exits a room. This exception was probably blocking the last of the code from running. It appears to be fixed now. :)

Thanks for the tip, BigFIsh, but unfortunately we're running version 1.6.9.

However, our lead has just discovered a bug in one of our Extensions that may or may not be related. He'll be looking into that as soon as possible and we'll report back.

The server computes a pathing request from the user. When the user receives the new path midway between two tiles (on the Client's side) and starts using the updated path.. they will always snap back to the tile they were last on then continue their path?

Is there any way for me to listen for camera pans? In our game, we'd like to disable the cursor while the camera is panning (since OS doesn't take input during that time).
