Thanks for the reply. I'm almost certain it has to do with ghost users due to poor disconnects, etc. Somehow these users are hanging certain rooms and causing the above problems.

This is fairly vague, but disconnects are possible for a number of reasons. First, The config file contains some settings involving disconnects.

Unless you are starting SmartFoxServer as the root user I would say that this is impossible. In fact there's no way that a non-root user can elevate the permissions of a file or directory to the root user.
