i've tried both:

sfsUser = new User(sfs.myUserId, sfs.myUserName);
(in hopes to retrieve the user's own variables which i guess is silly because if you're setting them to begin with you know what they are)

and so i also tried

sfsUser = new User(173, "Tom");
(manually setting it to the other ...

really trying to read the documentation too... but the avatar chat example in the documentation doesn't use getVariables anywhere -- ... it seems like it was calling upon some user.variables - but that doesn't seem to be a property that i can access...

not sure i figured it out but i solved the problem... there was something in my application that ran after connecting and would terminate the connection.... why i don't know.

so i just moved the main.as (from the template for as3) class into my main application and it solved the issue.

for some ...

...ok and getting user variables?

Not seeming to have much luck here..
reading the API I see a function "getVariable" and "getVariables" but Flex keeps telling me those methods don't exist and upon opening the actionscript files for SmartFoxClient ... I can't seem to to find those methods either.

also I added an event listener to ...

actually...as3 has opened the doors to a lot of new possibilities.

you still are limited by actionscript's security/sharing/sandbox -- whatever you want to call it. but people are finding ways around that even.

i would not be at all surpirsed if you could get a peer to peer game in actionscript3 ...

time out? leaving room and server after a few seconds

maybe something simple yet again on my part here but after successfully connecting to the server and joining a room... i'm getting dropped.

NOT if i use the as3 template... but if i try taking that and applying it to my flash game.

perhaps something to do with event listeners? i don't know why it ...

aha, that was it... i jumped the gun. i moved the setting of user variables down until after it was sure that you were logged in and in a room... (looking at the template provided under the as3/flex examples, i set my user variables after the trace where it says "successfully joined room")

maybe ...

problem setting user variables in Flex and CS3

Hi,

I'm a little new to this -- but I can connect to the server, join rooms, create rooms, and also create room variables... cool. but what i can't seem to do is set user variables. it just brings up errors for me.

in particular: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a ...
