Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-50, mixed mode)

I am curious if that is still the older version of java even though i installed the new one i downloaded...

Anyhow, I have yet to get the server (older version or new) to startup.

One advice(since I have many time this problem) before installing new version of java uninstall completly the old ones.

actually, i htink the problem is this.

I have installed java 5 (1.5) but for some reason in the terminal window when I type 'java -version' i get the older version 1.4 coming up:
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_07-215)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-50, mixed mode)

I have gone into JAVA PREFERENCES and told it to use J2SE 5.0 and made 5.0 the higher selection below that. then i hit SAVE and restarted... when i go back to the terminal it still says 1.4 is the active java version. :(

Is there some way to activate 5.0? I would not think it to be that hard, but I am going on 2 weeks of just trying to get this server running... so who knows.. lol

thanks
chris
