How will this affect OpenSpace?

We will release a new version for SFS2X. You can expect it to work in the same way of the current one, same API and minimal changes for custom server side code that extends the OS extension.

you do expect to release the new version of OpenSpace along with SFS2X, or will it come much later?
Just wondering, because I am expecting to pick up at least 1, maybe 2 seat licenses for OpenSpace soon.

We don't have precise release dates for OpenSpace yet. Our intention is to ideally release it by the end of the year but at this stage we cannot promise yet. We'll provide more info as we go.
HTML5 Websocket

Hi,
Does the new version will support HTML5 Websocket ?
Thanks

Not immediately, but why not? We'll eventually provide support for HTML5 when it grows a little more "stable" and better supported by the next browsers.
As far as I can see websockets don't support a real binary protocol so it would require to go back to a text based protocol which is exactly what SFS2X solves by providing a much faster and efficient solution.

I know this is redundant, but when do you expect the beta version to be released, I am worried because we are working on a new Project and the decision of buying the old version (1.6.9) or the new one is very important. We are highly interested in your engine, please help me out.
Thank you.

The public beta is due in October 2010, if you are interested in participating in the private beta just drop us an email with the details of your company and project.
Being already familiar with SFS PRO will help quite a bit too.
Hope it helps

So if we haven't got a Smartfox license, we can join for the private beta? And will we need a good PC to run the server with out losing any performance?

OpenSpace for 2X will be released later this year but at the moment there's no beta available. We'll provide more details after we launch the public release of SFS2X during October.

Hi, 2 questions....
1. Trivial, but why is it not just SmartFoxServer 2, why the 2X? Did you buy into the "XBox 360" hype
2. I don't have a license but I was lead developer & architect on a live Flex-based MMORPG using SFS... can I get in on the beta? I also came to the forum to look around since I'm planning to start some prototyping on a new project for my own company, and it seems a little pointless to do that in 1.x IF 2X beta is stable enough to be useful?

No, I don't think so:
2X comes from the versioning number 2.x
Also 2X can be interpreted as "times two" or "twice as much"... alluding to lots more new features, improvements etc ... hence the 2X
2. I don't have a license but I was lead developer & architect on a live Flex-based MMORPG using SFS... can I get in on the beta?
I think so. Our private beta is essentially targeted at existing customers because of their previous background with SFS1.x Please get in touch via email and we'll discuss the details.

Yes it is. We have customers working on actual games since April 2010. Additionally we're very close to the first public release candidate:
