Hello! I was thinking about running my game on a Socket Server. I would have alot more choices in things with this. 1 problem is that I have no clue how to start/set one up? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi.

It looks like you're doing some confusion there. SmartFoxServer is a Socket Server, which is a server that works with sockets. Now what you need is a VPS (Virtual Private Server) with an OS (Linux or Windows - Linux are better and cheaper - please don't use CentOS, it is known for not working very well with SFS).

After you get your VPS, the installation is very simple, it's the same as when you install on your PC, the only difference is that you have no Desktop, only a console.

I suggest you to read this chapter of the docs, it has there the steps to install SFS on every OS.

Xml <<Php

SFS is not a xml server... XML is just one of its protocols... You also have, for eample, raw-string based protocol at your disposal...

Regarding the other question, PHP is a server-side language, used in webservers... SFS also comes with an internal webserver (Jetty), which I think it can support php.

But for working with SFS, in my opinion, its much better if you handle the server-side - including DB work- with extensions.
