Hello everyone,
we're happy to announce the release of SmartFoxServer 1.6.2 which comes with the final RedBox add-on, bringing full audio/video streaming capabilities to the SmartFoxServer framework.

As previously announced the RedBox add-on is free and open-source, so anyone can take the sources and add more features if they need to.

The final RedBox comes packed with a lot of features:
  • - Live one-to-one audio/video chat
    - Live events (one broadcaster, many subscribers)
    - Remote A/V recording (video messages etc...)
    - Video streaming
    - New simple API for handling A/V chat invitations, streaming etc...
    - 4 real-life examples with source code
    - detailed API documentation
    - full source code of each component

You can read a complete overview here -> http://www.smartfoxserver.com/docs/docP ... /index.htm

Here's the release notes -> http://www.smartfoxserver.com/products/ ... 1_6_2.html

Cool, that's really interesting news.

I have a small question, can it also handle many-to-many voice communication?

And can it connect user in a peer-to-peer way, or must it all go through a server?

Yes. By means of the AVCastManager class you can create audio/video conferences.

No. The RedBox is based on the Red5 opensource project. This server is needed for a/v stream encoding based on the rtmp protocol.

Looking over the release notes it doesn't look like there is much advantage in upgrading if I am not interested in RedBox. Is there any other reason I should upgrade to 1.6.2?

RedBox apart, the only (minor) change introduced by 1.6.2 is in the logOut server-side event: it now passes a new parameter called "user" containing a reference to the User object.
If you don't need this, you can avoid upgrading.

mixart: yup, the 1.6.2 release is mainly centered around the RedBox.
1.6.x upgrades are in the works and will be released in the near future.

thanks

Examples are available in the download package.
You can run them locally on your computer, study them etc...

If you already have SmartFoxServer 1.6.x you can simply download the RedBox alone which is a smaller download and install it by following the enclosed instructions.

Just check the very first post in this topic.

cheers

I Downloaded V. 1.6.2 is the A/V chat is using only with flex ?? the all example for flex only :?

Hi,
yes examples are all in Flex. Actually the code is normal Actionscript 3 and the usage of the SmartFoxServer API is identical whether you use Flex or Flash, so you can still study the code and make your own apps.

Additionally you find detailed documentation about the new classes of the RedBox here -> http://www.smartfoxserver.com/docs/docP ... Docs/html/

cheers

Hello

for A/V is that must to install Red5 server too ?? and we need to manage two servers for A/V streaming ??

Red5 server is part of the RedBox, so it comes packed with the server download.
All you have to do is starting both SFS and Red5.
Follow the instructions provided in the docs (Chapter 10) ---> www.smartfoxserver.com/docs

If something is not clear, let us know

You probably have to add the SmartFoxServer AS3 api classes as source folder for the project. Can you report the full error messages?

AS 2 ??

Hey, does Redbox work with AS 2?? Our whole Project is AS2 at the moment, and we hope we dont have to move to AS3 just yet...
