Shared Object / Room Lite

I keep wanting to use a shared object and am tempted to use Rooms as sharedobjects. It appears to me that Room acts like a sharedobject (red5/fms) or a holder of a shared object (by using RoomVariables) but has more overhead/functionality. Is there any chance that in a future version, we could have a shared object (setting dynamic data that is synchronized between client and server) without the overhead of Room. And then Room would just inherit sharedobject?
Sharedobjects would have clients that 'join'/subscribe to them either via the client or server side code.
Not sure if this is the best forum to put this and I realize that you know the internals and design of the system better than I do.
