I downloaded the newest version (1.6.6) today and have been experiencing issues with running my javaExtension classes in the new runtime; specifically custom buddy persister. Seems to be a problem with the shipped start.bat file for windows install.. its missing the javaExtension lib path. DumbFox will give you an error saying it cant find the buddy list class.. in case anyone else had experienced the same error.

The javaExtension folder not being present in the classpath is done on purpose. Only this way extension classes can be reloaded automatically upon recompilation.

You can anyways add any Buddy List Persistence custom class by deploying it in any other folder (I would suggest a new one under Server/) and adding it to the classpath.
