Switching many players to spectator simultaneously

Post by ichimaru »

Good day all,

We have the smartfoxserver pro licence and are currently stress testing our application. A problem came forward which is the following:

After a game is finished all the players of a room need to change to spectator mode and must confirm that he/she want to continue playing. When I figured out that a player to spectator switch was not possible with smartfox I implemented the solution suggested in several threads (log user out of the room and let him join again as spectator).

The problem we think now is that when hundreds of players are switching simultaneously when the game is finished, too much messages are generated per player and the message queue overflows and starts dropping (too much) messages.

This eventually leads to a situation that all users are disconnected by smartfox.

The extensions are written in java.

I hope someone can advice us with this problem.

Thanks in advance!

We're currently in the process of releasing a new update.
I think we should be able to introduce a player2spectator functionality before the launch.

Please, drop us an email and we'll keep in touch and send you an early release that you can test. (from the main menu Support > Contact us)

Ideally it could be ready for testing by the end of the next week

Hi Lapo,

In the release notes of the latest update 1.6.5, nothing was mentioned about the player2spectator change stuff. Has it come out?
If not, is the only solution for this is to leave the room and join it back, as mentioned in the earlier posts?

My previous is date April 8th 2009, just a few days ago so it's not referring to 1.6.5 which was released a few months ago (January 2009)

We're going to implement it for the next 1.6.6 update which should be out this month.
