Flash Player 7 Mobile

Post by goodguy20k »

Any chance that SmartFoxServer could run with the Flash Player 7 Mobile version? This could be very cool, but I can't tell how much API it's friendly with. I have a feeling you know pretty well, Lapo, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Why not! :)
According to Adobe the latest version does support XMLSocket, so it's definitely possible :) ( SmartFoxServer

Sooner or later I gotta make a test. If someone has a chance to try before we do let us know! 8) :)

More infos about the player here:

Very cool indeed. Looking forward to the results. 8)
To bad I don't own a Pocket PC myself, but this is more than enough reason to get one. :P

I've been a member for years at this site. They've tested a lot of it out, and shown some of the limits. My main question was if SmartFox would work.

I'll set about testing this right away. :)

EDIT: Found the other interesting post.

Do you think it also would be possible to run smartfox on a Flash Lite 2 enabled mobile phone?

I am proud to say that I have taken the SimpleConnect demo, resized it to be more "friendly" for a handheld, and published.

It WORKS!!!

Lapo, this is awesome! This brings a whole new realm to my site! Now... I wonder how Flash Lite 2 does...

I'll keep working with the pocket pc version... If anyone cares to see how it goes, it'll be at: http://vipirates.clickopolis.net/mobile/handheld.html

The source is here: http://vipirates.clickopolis.net/mobile/handheld.fla
The flash file is here: http://vipirates.clickopolis.net/mobile/handheld.fla

This also means that you could easily just run any Flash Player 6 SmartFox App in the pocket pc version. I'd just prefer to have them resized for the different screen orientation and size.

This is awesome!

humm, I don't think so.
The Lite player does not support the XMLSocket object, so the only way to create a multiplayer-like interaction is to use the polling technique

That's correct, since version 2.1 the XMLSocket object is supported just like in Flash player 7
