Viewable properties in Admin Console

Post by Ganius »

Hi Lapo.

It would be great if the admin console could be updated so we could also view properties of the rooms and users, and not just variables. We try and keep the variables to a minimum to reduce the traffic when sending information across to clients, but it seems there's no way to see any of the properties of the users or rooms with the admin tool.

Also, the ability to be able to update the variables and properties from the Admin Console would be great too!!

Cheers,
G.

Also...

Would be great if we could search for users in the admin console, and then display/edit their variables/properties, rather than having to find the specific room they are in and then select them.

Cheers,
G.

Wise suggestions, thanks :)
The next major release is going to address all these topics and alot more. We'll post more details as we progress.

Actually the admin tool needs lot of touches in my opinion. In addition to taking full control over the users as Ganius suggested, some other enhancement wound be cool:

1. it would be gr8 if the typed ip addresses are saved in the login screen
2. the edit screen (for config and extensions) is veryyyyyy poor. If it is possible to make it a little like an IDE, it would be perfect.
3. it would be good if I can configure the number of seconds the server takes before restarting when I click the restart button in the admin tool
4. also sometimes I need to view both the extension view and the normal view for a room. Why not putting them both in 1 large screen, btw, why dont you increase the dims of the admin tool?

those are just some fast notes that crossed my mind just now.

You mean keeping an "history" of the last n typed addresses? Good one.

I understand but creating an "IDE" would require a huge investment and it seems to me like we're reinventing the wheel, as there are so many great code IDEs out there.

Also the intended purpose of that panel is to be able to remotely take a peek at the code and make small changes. It was not meant as an editor for extensions, that would be out of scope for an admin tool.
3. it would be good if I can configure the number of seconds the server takes before restarting when I click the restart button in the admin tool
Absolutely agree

Yep definitely.
At the time we developed the tool Flex was just a dream :)

thank you

yes thats what I mean and I miss this feature a lot actually. Please do it :). Also if you add a 'remember password' checkbox, is would be a good time saver feature.

I understand and agree, but althought the admin tool isnt the right place to write code, it is still used to make fast modifications to an extension or config.xml . I don't ask for a full fledged IDE. But only if possible to add some simple cool features like:
1. syntax coloring
2. ability to add tab spaces (indentation)

smart fox server is a great software, I love it and that's why I want to see it simply perfect :)

Hi Lapo.

Any rough estimation on when the next release of the admin tool will be available?

We're working on a patch that provides fixes to a number of things that were notified after the release of 1.6.6
This will be out as soon as possible (in the range of few weeks).
Substantial Admin Tool changes are not in the radar yet.
