Connecting...
I finally got the avatar chat published to the internet (with your help) but now it doesn't let some people connect. It works fine for me but for other people it just says:
This is the url to the swf file: http://www.virtualrealm.ahost4free.com/ ... lRealm.swf
Hello,
your SWF is trying to connect to this address >> 192.168.0.178
This is the problem. That address is a local network address and it won't work when published over the internet.
You should use the your "real" IP address, the one your Internet Provider assigns you when you connect to the internet.
Also if you're not connected directly (for example, you use a router in your LAN) to the internet you should set your router to so that it sends the requests on port 9339 (SFS default port) to the machine running SFS
Hope it helps!

RE:Connecting...
Hey man its me freakoffer!!!
My firewall tells me all the outgoing and icoming connections.dan111 wrote:Thanks again but how do I find out my real IP? i tried an IP tool but I kept getting 192.168.0.178 and 127.0.0.1
When launching your SWF it tells me that it is attempting to connect to 192.168.0.178.
Again that is just your local IP address in your LAN, not your real IP web address.
For example the computer I am using has 192.168.0.2 as local address, but you want be able to reach it unless you had cable plugged in one of the hubs of my LAN
Look for your real IP address

Ok, in fact you don't need anything else.dan111 wrote:I've tried all of them but I still can't find my real IP. I still keep getting my external IP, my local IP and 127.0.0.1
You need the local IP of the machine running SFS and the external IP assigned by your Internet Provider.
The Flash client must connect to the latter.
The router receives the connection and must be configured so that all requests on SFS default port (9339) are sent to the machine running SFS in the LAN (using the local IP address)
Sounds a bit complex but thats' the only way. It's not a problem with SFS, it's just plain network administration.

Re: Connecting...
I have the same problem. Please help me out. I can do a telnet to our IP at port 9339, and have well adjusted the config to have it point to the correct port and IP already, but the avatar chat just doesn't push through. It ends with just "Connecting..."dan111 wrote:I finally got the avatar chat published to the internet (with your help) but now it doesn't let some people connect. What could possibly be wrong? Thanks.

hi
As far as i can understand this thread ... dan111 is trying to connect to his local SFS from net. This is not going to work until u try to connect to the IP address assigned to u by the ISP when online and not u r Local IP.
For getting your SWF to communicate with the local SFS you will need to either get help from a network admin or u can do it yourself. Firstly if u r behind a router u can check out the IP address assigned to the Router/Router Connected computer to get the IP assigned to you by your ISP.
(Note: on Windows u can use "ipconfig/all" in command window to get network details)
Once you get it; you will notice it will not be u r default loop back address 127.0.0.1 or 192.*.*.* now u must configure u r SWF to connect to this new IP address(if u have dynamic IP ; you will have to point to this IP every time it changes)
AND IF U R BEHIND A ROUTER:
(This step is not recommended for a new user)
U need to forward the PORT in the Router to the LOCAL IP where SFS is running.
Hope this post helps.
Regards
Anand

In my case, the local IP of the machine running SFS is 192.168.0.11,
the external IP is 82.236.98.22. I have a freebox, which I have
configured to do two things:
1. give a fixed address (....11) to the machine that runs SFS, and
2. redirect port 9339 to this address.
When I try to run simpleConnect (from another machine inside network)
it does NOT run if I use the external one (82......), it says "Can't connect" I have to use the internal IP (....11), and then it works OK.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you
