SmartFoxServer Tutor

Post by rjgtav »

Hello everyone! Firstly, Happy new year!
This year I decided to start writing a blog about sfs where i'll write many tutorials and share my knowledge and experience with sfs and flash programming.
Currently i'm writing tutorials about the basics of sfs1x. Then i'll start to write more complex tutorials about sfs1x and also sfs2x.
For the client side I'll use actionscript 2.0 for sfs1x and actionscript 3.0 for sfs2x.
In the server side I'll use actionscript 1.0 for sfs1x and java for sfs2x.

Feel free to give your opinion about it.

Would love to see more from you, it's very easy to understand!

If you take any requests, I'd love to see how to run multiple SFS servers on the same IP/server with different ports.

:).

Good work rjgtav. Hope to see more soon.

Geek- What's the purpose of having multiple instances of SFS on the same server? You can't get a performance boost and hosting different games can be accomplished by zones. Why would you want this?

(Not trying to steal this subject, sorry rjgtav).

And I want to do this because I have a friend who I am helping with and needs to use a server until he can get his own, and I have a VPS. I own a game running off of it. I only have the 20 user trial, and hosting 2 games off of 20 players would be sort of annoying.

In short, to host a server for me and a server for my friend. Thanks.

Oh, I understand now. :) But can't be done nor should you attempt it because it is against SFS terms of use. They are already giving you something free, if you need more you will have to pay or have your friend host his own VPS.

There has been other people that have done it and asked about it on the forums... and the mods haven't said anything about it - if it's not aloud then I won't try it but I have seen it done. :).

Well if you say you've seen it done.... I haven't read every thread but I have seen the odd person ask. I personally don't think it's ethical but you can try running two instances and change the ports for each. BTW we are hijacking the thread. :?

Hey rjgtav,

Well done again i really found your new tutorials helpful,

I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on kick/ban functions.

I know this gets mentioned here a lot so it would be a great help to many people
