What is everyone working on? :D

Post by Carl »

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering what everyone is working on, and what it is that we're all excited about building?

I think that most people post as a last resort, when they're stuck or frustrated with something, which can sound kind of negative when in fact I guess most of us must be pretty excited about this server!

I'll start it off.

I'm working towards three goals:

1. Here at my job, we have what we call a "Gameframe", it's a piece of java based proprietary software that allows affiliates to deploy multiplayer games on their site complete with chat, avatars, alerts etc. We also have a program on myspace to draw players into our system, but it's basically a link to another site, when what we really want is a gamframe that can function directly on the myspace pages, but java isn't allowed. So, I was tasked by my boss to explore the feasability of making a Flash Gameframe using SFS.

2. In Director I made a chatroom similar to Habbo Hotel; I'm constantly working on it to add rooms, embedded games like pictionary, trivia etc, and I've also been exploring the pros and cons of porting the entire business over to Flash eventually. From a filesize point of view it makes sense, and Director is getting old so it might be a good move.

3. In the above project, I'm partnered up with a guy that provides multiuser servers to people; and we've been looking for the right Flash solution to offer for a while. SFP is allot cheaper than Flash Communication server, and much better made and documented than Oregano and Unity, so I'm pushing him to get that.

So anyway, that's what I'm working, anyone making any cool multiplayer games or something?

Nice idea, Carl. You are absolutly right - most topic are like "this code doesn't work - where is the problem". It'll be nice if there is more disscusions like this - what you worknig at, how you solve this problem, what is the best solution.

Currently I'm working on site for online multiplayer games. Something very simmilar to Yahoo! games(and to GameTrust btw). I'm using SFS because it's maked with chat and games in mind. Flash Communication server is more expensive and it's looks like that the newer version are more oriented on stream aduio/video. Also it's more complicated and it'll take more time to develop the site (and as everybody knows time = money :) ). Also there is some big sites that use SFS(club penguin for example), so it seems it's stable enought. Also there is very good suport(thanks Lapo) and it have better documentation than it's competitors.

currently working on:
- some sweet new stuff for SmartFoxServer users. Can't say much as of now, but we're sure you'll like it. 8)
- planning the next features to release
- working on a few large multiplayer apps and games.More details on this soon...
- playing some retro games on a GP2X console :p (maybe not exactly "work" but it inspires future work ideas)

I was working in two projects using AMFPHP, now i'm migrating them to SmartFoxServer.

The first is an avatar chat with pseudo-isometric view (the camera is isometric but you can walk in any direction) the idea is offer the software to some local companies and create personalized avatar chats for websites.

My second project is a Multiplayer RPG game about monsters (like Pokemon), is a mix of fight-tamagotchi-rpg. This is a simple game, very small compared to dofus. The game implements my avatar chat to interaction between players.
