room list player count showing -1

hi Lapo,

the 1.6.9 version still making problems with the room variables, as i said in my previous post, in my example, on the admin control some Boolean variable is true but the getBooleanValue function return always false.

do something changed in the room's variables region on the 1.6.9 ver?

As regards the Room Variables. Do you set and read the variables only from server side?

Hey lapo.

It has come to my attention that the incorrect user count bug is not solved yet.

Negative user count does not show anymore.... but over time if the server is online for about 24 hours some rooms will show incorrect player count.

I have checked through the admin tool, rooms that has 5 players may show on the admin tool as 6/4..... any hope on getting a fix on that?

we don't get any reports of this since a long time.
Do you have any ways that we can use to reproduce it?
The fact that it takes 24 hours doesn't help us much.
If it's a concurrency issue it should be reproducible in a few minutes just by banging the Room with user enter/exit requests.

We do have stress tests that perform these sort of checks and we could not recreate an inconsistent userCount.

Maybe it's a problem with the patch being used.
We have version 1.6.10 in the works and we think it will be released it next month. If you could provide any help on how to recreate the issue it would be great.

Moreover, the latest fix counts the Users in the Room's user list so there is no distinction between the count and the actual list of Users.
I am wondering how do you determine how a Room count is not correct. Maybe you are encountering problems with "ghost" connections? Resulting in a few player being stuck with their connection?

The player count stays incorrect permenetaly.
I have no idea how to reproduce it.
and how could it be a ghost connection as many times the count is incorrect
in a way that it shows a value that is less than the actual player count.
a room with 9 players will show many times "8". and it will stay -1 untill i reboot the server.

All i can say is that I swtich from spect to player by my self in code. and from player to spect.

We are using multi threads in the extension. My game logic structure is that every action in a room is always synchronized with synchronized(r).

There are cases that i am synchronizing the user object as well.

a dead lock is unlikly to happen because if it was the case the server would get stuck after x amount of time. we have been up for more than 20 days with over 1000 online on average.

I am trying to think what are the causes of this. but i don't have any knowledge of whats going on behind the scenes of sfs.

I don't think that we are dealing with ghost users, any other ideas how to pin point this problem.

it is very annoying i cannot relay on the playerCount. as we use it in the game logic as well and create unwanted results.

Just to recap. Are you using regular 1.6.9 version?
Did you get a custom patch from us?
If not, please get in touch with us via email (Support > Contact us) and we'll try to help you further. We can ship a pre-release of 1.6.10 which has several fixes that might help.

In the email make sure to add a reference to this post.

I am using 1.6.9 with the latest public patch.
You have sent me a custom patch before the official 1.6.9.
I am not using it since 1.6.9 was out.

the same user count and spectator count problem

We have exactly the same problem, after a certain period of time without restarting the server we got something like that :

<rm id='15' priv='0' temp='0' game='1' ucnt='10' scnt='-10' maxu='10' maxs='8'><n><![CDATA[Table2]]></n></rm>

user count is 10 and spectator count is -10 !! but there is no one in the room, there is no ghost users as in certain period (6am for example) there is no one in the zone. when the server is restarted everything becomes fine till a certain period of time (we don't know how many).

We are using sfs 1.6.8
