AdmiTool will not connect

Post by Nikrushworth »

Hi All, I'm new to Smartfoxserver, so apologies if this is a stupid question/scenario, presented below.

Have installed the Basic Version of SmartfoxServer on two Windows 2003 Servers, and also on a Windows XP desktop machine.
The install process completes with no problems. I then launch the AdminTool in Internet Explorer 7. At the Administrator login, it shows 127.0.0.1 and Port 9339, by default. I then type in the default sfs_admin and sfs_pass in the appropriate fields and then click on submit.

All that happens then is the connecting text in red shows above the submit button, and nothing else happens, it does not connect, even if I leave it for 10 minutes. I am trying to connect on the same machine that Smartfoxserver is installed on.

This is being done from the actual server or laptop, and no firewalls are involved, as this is all internal, on a DEV environment.

Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Nik

Admintool wont connect

Post by Nikrushworth »

I forgot to mention that I start the server, and in the cmd window it runs through the server initialisation, and then says "Server is up and running". So its not a problem with the installation or startup of the server itself, seemingly just that the Admintool will not connect.

try to run the "Simple Connect" example from the installation directory. There is one folder "Examples" try to run some sample program from there.

Hum, well

First make sure that your server config file is set to connect to "127.0.0.1" on the same port you enter in the AdminTool and that AdminAllowedAddresses allows "127.0.0.1". Also just in case, make sure your login and password is set to sfs_admin sfs_pass like you were trying.

Then make sure your flash client has allowed permission to the AdminTool swf to connect. It should have asked you automatically if it wasn't allowed, but you can check by right clicking inside the flash AdminTool --> Settings... --> Advanced... It should now open your browser, there go to Global Security Settings Panel and add a location pointing to the admintool swf and make sure it is always allowed.

Hope one of these things will help.

AdmiTool will not connect - Examples will not connect either

Post by Nikrushworth »

Hi

Thanks for all the replies so far. I've tried all of them and still doesn't work.
For info, when I try to connect to any of the examples, they do not connect either !!! There is obviously something fundamentally wrong with my setup, but I followed the install instructions, and got no errors on install. Also seems strange that this is the same issue on three seperate systems.
I have removed completely on all the systems and re-installed, but still get the same problem???

Is it that I am missing a software component, and this is preventing the connection???

Once again, this is being done in a DEV environment, and no firewalls are causing issues.

Any info, or troubleshooting steps including a list of any software add-ons I may require but do not have, would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm still stuck with this. Does anyone have any ideas? We are considering buying the product, but we can't get it to work, so are very much stuck in the water.
Do the Support Team for Smartfoxserver view these forums???

If so, can you give us a helping hand?? Or is there another process I can go through to get Support for this product. We need this to work before we can install our App, or we are stuck !!!

Anyone out there understand our problem, and how to put this right?

Thanks in anticipation.

Please follow this link http://www.macromedia.com/support/docum ... ger04.html

and check if the "Always trust files in these locations:" list contains the SFS folder. If not from the "Edit locations..." -> "Add location" -> "Browse for folder.." and choose the SFS folder.

It's fixed !!!!!

With the help of Patso, and if I had understood the help better (my fault), also didibus. Much praise goes to both of you.

Yes, it was as you both indicated, I had to allow the page security settings. It just did not occur to me that if right clicking in the Admintool, would give me further settings.... yes, I know, you don't have to say it...

Anyway, finally got there, thanks for the help on this, very, very, much appreciated.

Thanks.
