Server Starting then Stoping..

Hello, I'm currently running my VPS from virpus.com; Ubuntu 10.04 minimal 32 bit.

I know some people who are saying this VPS doesn't allow Java with Smartfoxserver, it does state in the TOS;

"No Virpus Networks servers or networks may be used for;
- High load applications which may cause disruption to other customers (such as java games)
- Any other type of high packet load or disruptive network traffic or disruptive processes that effect the experience of our other users."

I know Smartfoxserver doesn't like some Virtual Private Servers but I was running my Smartfoxserver game a few months ago with this company.

The Problem;

Everytime I'm starting Smartfoxserver on my VPS;

Code: Select all

./sfs start

It starts up;

Code: Select all

SmartFoxServer PRO is running (1822).

But, after a few minutes, I get this happening;

Code: Select all

./sfs status

SmartFoxServer PRO is not running.

NOTE; When I do;

Code: Select all

./sfs console

It starts perfectly and correctly.


Please help me, should I go with a different VPS?

No, not true. You can run SFS on any VPS provided that it meets the basic requirements in terms of resources or it's not affected by strange restrictions as the one you have mentioned. Good examples are Rackspace and Amazon but there are tons more out there.

Anyways... back your questions, you should check the logs of the server and report what's wrong at the start up.

I used to use virpus but the issue Is not related to SmartFoxServer.

Recently All Virpus Budget VPS's have been looping so the Java process is killed every few minutes. Therefore its almost impossible to use Smartfox with them.

Try the Rackspace Cloud, it is easy to setup and cost effective, imho
