Is it possible to run OpenSpace as a "single player" application without using the Smart Fox Server?

Not out-of-the-box.
The classes which communicate with SmartFoxServer are kept separate from the isometric engine, so if you purchase the source code license, it won't be too difficult to remove the multiplayer part.
